Ray Barbee, a legend in both skateboarding and music, is set to release his new EP, Little Postcards From Home, on May 23, 2025. This project is a collaboration with Too Good, the label run by fellow skateboarding musician Tommy Guerrero.
A Fresh Sound from a Skateboarding Icon
In Little Postcards From Home, Barbee blends TR-808 drum machine beats—famous from tracks like "Planet Rock" and "Sexual Healing"—with post-punk-inspired guitar riffs. The result is a unique fusion that pays homage to his musical influences while forging new ground.
DIY Recording with a Personal Touch
Barbee recorded the EP at home using an 8-track cassette recorder and an Akai MPC sampler, giving the project an intimate, lo-fi feel. His son, Nolan Barbee, contributed bass on two tracks, adding a familial layer to the music.
Visual Art Meets Music
The EP's cover art was created by Javier Mendizabal, a fellow skateboarder and artist, further intertwining the worlds of skateboarding and creative expression.
