Young Talent, Sky Brown, Makes History
From YouTube fame at the age of three to enrolling in England's skateboarding program, Sky Brown finally won her first Skateboarding World Championship this Sunday in park skateboarding. On her second run, she earned 89.6 points, which was how she achieved this remarkable victory. Then Brown did even better in her third run, scoring 90.83. She was so impressive she topped off Kokona Hiraki, who was second with 86.66 points. Brown scored better than Olympic champion Sakura Yosozumi who came in third, scoring 85.15 points.
At 14, Sky Brown became Britain's first skateboarding world champion. This achievement is even more remarkable since, in May 2020; she almost had a career-ending injury when she fell 15 feet while training for the Olympics. Brown will not need to worry about qualifying for the Olympics in 2024, with the Skateboarding World Championships providing a point system. With Brown's historic run, she qualified to be in Paris next year.
