A brief recap

If you're a hard core skater, you probably know about Deca Skateboards, one of the most influential and innovative brands in the industry. But do you know how it all started? In this article, we'll take you back to the origins of Deca and how it changed the game of skateboarding forever.

Deca Skateboards was founded in 2000 by four legendary skaters: Daewon Song, Enrique Lorenzo, JB Gillet and Marcus McBride. They were all former riders of World Industries, a dominant company in the 90s that produced some of the most iconic videos and boards of the era. However, they felt that World Industries was losing its creative edge and becoming too corporate, so they decided to break away and start their own brand.

Deca's mission was to bring back the fun and originality to skateboarding, with a focus on technical skills and innovation. They wanted to create boards that reflected their personalities and styles, and videos that showcased their amazing talents and tricks. They also wanted to have more control over their own careers and destinies, without being restricted by the demands of a big company.

Deca's first video, "Sneak Preview", was released in 2000 and featured some of the most mind-blowing skating ever seen. Daewon Song's part was especially memorable, as he performed incredible feats of balance and precision on various obstacles, such as picnic tables, benches, rails and even a car. The video also introduced two new riders to the team: Shiloh Greathouse and Brian Hoard.

Deca's second video, "2nd to None", came out in 2001 and was even more impressive than the first one. It featured more amazing skating from the original four members, as well as new additions like Luis Cruz, Marco Romero and Shin Okada. The video also had a humorous and playful vibe, with skits and pranks that added to the fun factor. Deca's videos were not only entertaining, but also inspiring for many skaters who wanted to emulate their style and creativity.

Deca Skateboards represented a new way of doing business, where skaters had more freedom and autonomy over their own projects. Deca Skateboards was a breath of fresh air in a stale industry, and it left a lasting legacy that still influences skateboarding today.
