Mariah Duran Has Her Sights Set on the Olympics

And this time, she’s prepared

Skateboarding debuted as an Olympic sport in Tokyo in 2021 (it would have been 2020 but, well, you know). Mariah Duran was there, representing the United States. She didn’t medal, but her dream isn’t dead. In NBC’s series called “Hometown Hopefuls,” dedicated to an Olympic hopeful from each state, regardless of sport, Duran was highlighted to showcase her home state of New Mexico.

Duran admits that, with skateboarding being an Olympic sport an entirely new thing, she had no clue what to expect in Tokyo. Now, she’s ready to go. Qualifying hasn’t always gone smoothly for the 26-year-old American. Injuries have gotten in the way. However, she medaled at the X Games in Best Trick, so things are looking up as she aims to be in Paris in 2024, trying to land on the podium this time. You can check out Duran’s “Hometown Hopefuls” showcase right here. And for a little extra action.

Here’s a brief video the state of New Mexico put together for her:
