VANS AND TAKA HAYASHI INTRODUCE A CAMO-THEMED DIY PACK
Taka Hayashi has teamed with Vans on multiple occasions for different releases. This includes a recent “DIY” pack concept which provided purchasers with a blank canvas of a Vans shoe and different Velcro patches of assorted colors and patterns you could place on the shoes however you saw fit. Apparently, Vans and Hayashi were happy with the concept, because they are going to the DIY well again. This time, though, they are eschewing the colorful summer vibe for something heavy on the camouflage and military inspiration.
You can get either an Sk8-Hi or an Old Skool silhouette in all black that come with an assortment of panels that you can stick on. The shoes have sticking that give you a sense of where to stick your panels, not unlike a paint-by-numbers project. There are some animal print panels, including tiger camo, plus some other earth tone looks as well. One cool think about the Old Skool package is that you get both eyelet and forefoot panels, so that your shoe can look like a traditional Old Skool or like a slip-on. Either way, the options for design are myriad. Currently, you can get the Vans and Hayashi DIY collaboration from the Japanese shoe site BILLY. You may be able to find it elsewhere at some point, but for now, that’s your best bet if you’ve ever wanted a camo Sk8-Hi that looked how you wanted it to.
