Skateistan Provides an Update on its Upcoming Skate School

The group is continuing to make a positive impact across the world

If you saw the Oscar-winning short documentary Learning to Skate in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl), you are well familiar with Skateistan. The non-profit group has been building skate schools in areas of the world where opportunities, and safe spaces, for kids can be hard to come by. The first school, for example, was built in Kabul, Afghanistan, still reeling from years of military conflict. Fortunately, Skateistan hasn’t rested on its laurels just because they found some success and kind of won an Oscar. Instead, they are still out there working to give more kids opportunities to skate.

Right now, Skateistan is in the process of building its fifth skate school, and its third in Afghanistan. The current product is going up in Bamyan, a city of over 100,000 people. Skateistan’s school will be able to teach 800 kids per week once it is at full capacity, which is just awesome. Hopefully a lot of kids will be getting an opportunity to learn to skate in Bamyan soon. The group has put together this video above to provide an update on the progress of its fifth school. And, of course, if you want to support Skateistan, or learn more, you can visit the group’s website as well.
