Skateistan Gives Us an Update on How They’ve Handled the Pandemic

Skateistan is doing great things in the world of skateboarding. If you want to know more about them, watch the Oscar-winning documentary Learning to Skate in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl). Or, if you don’t have the time, just know they build skate schools and give skateboarding lessons in areas of the world where opportunities are limited, often due to financial restraints, other times due to government or social oppression. However, as positive as Skateistan’s mission is, that didn’t inoculate them from the COVID-19 pandemic. The year 2020 was a tough one for Skateistan, but as you can see in this update from the group, they persevered. Yes, they had to delay the building of their fifth school – the third in Afghanistan – but they were still able to give lessons using social distance.
