The Most Interesting Items on Tony Hawk’s Filmography

The face of skateboarding has been all over TV
CHRIS MORGAN  |

Tony Hawk is the most-famous skateboarder of all time, and likely always will be. The lack of zeitgeist and the stretching out of culture makes it harder for people to become iconic faces if they are major actors or massive sports stars. With all due respect to skateboarding, obviously I’m quite enthused about it, it doesn’t have the cache of the NBA or European soccer. Hawk was the face of skateboarding at the X Games’ big moment. He had the video game system. Also, he was never afraid to get out in front of the camera. Dude isn’t afraid of publicity. That’s not a slam.

Hawk has been all over television and film, from the ‘80s until now. Granted, almost always as himself. Some of them are more interesting than others, though. For example, Hawk has been all over Jackass, but that’s not surprising. Here are five Hawk appearances that are pretty cool.

1. The Simpsons

Yo, if you get to voice yourself on The Simpsons, that rules. Even Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling getting to do it hasn’t ruined it. Plus, Hawk appeared in the episode that was promoted as the 300th episode, so he was part of the big celebration.

2. Comedy Bang! Bang!

Comedy Bang! Bang! the podcast is still ongoing, and it is one of the funniest podcasts of all time. Back in the day, it also had a run on IFC as a cult comedy show. It was a fake talk show, with a celebrity guest involved as the main guest before a comedy character would show up as the second. Hawk got to do it one time. He wears a plaid shirt and silver watch.

3. CSI: Miami:

Now, CSI Miami doesn’t seem like a good show. I’ve never seen an episode, but I saw some of the original. This version just has more humidity and also David Caruso. However, Hawk gets to play a skateboarder and video game programmer who also gets murdered. That’s probably fun for a non-actor.

4. Celebrity Wheel of Fortune

Now, I’d rather go on Jeopardy!, but Wheel of Fortune isn’t bad. Sure, being on Pyramid would be better. Or Password. Or Match Game. Or, well, it’s still a game show!

5. Escape to L.A

Escape from New York is a John Carpenter thriller that rips. This belated sequel is sketchy and not so good. The special effects are so bad. However, reportedly, Tony Hawk served as a surfing stunt double for Peter Fonda. That is cool. The fact it’s in a flop makes it even better.
