Sky Brown Has Made History For Team GB As She Becomes The Youngest Ever Medal Winner

The teens take centre stage in the women’s skateboarding once again

Sky Brown may well be the youngest ever Olympic medal winner at thirteen for team GB, but she also holds the first medal for skateboarding. After suffering horrific injuries last year, consisting of a fractured skull, broken wrist and hand, to come back with such confidence and ability after that should be deserved a medal itself.

It came down to the wire with The Japanese competitor's Sakura Yosozumi and Kokana Hiraki already taking first and second place. Bronze was not secured until Brown nailed her run; her euphoria shown once finishing showed she knew a high score was coming her way. The number one ranked female skater in the world, Misugu Okamoto, crashed out of her run, leaving her in tears before finishing as third place was also in her sights. You can check the full results here and see just how close the top four places were. Once again, all medal winners are teenagers for the female contestants, with Hiraki being only twelve years old and the average age on the podium being fifteen.

Although there were tears, hugs were shared between competitors in sportsmanship that has been consistently shown through these Olympic games.
