SKATERS WRITE POSTCARDS FOR A COMPLICATED, TROUBLING YEAR

It’s a way to keep connecting in the mess that has been 2020

Postcards are a decidedly old school way of communication. Back in the day, you’d buy a postcard or six, often on vacation, and send them to friends and family. They were a way to stay in touch, and to give people a sense of what you were up to. These days, postcards are pretty rare. When you are on vacation you just hit people up with like 50 Instagram posts, right? Well postcards still exist, and the website SSense recently got some skaters involved in writing postcards.

Needless to say, 2020 has been a weird year. Vacations? Those aren’t happening. We can’t visit friends and family. Sure, you can check in with people via text or video chats, but why not get a little old school? SSense got several California skating institutions to write postcards to friends and family with thoughts on the year and their frame of mind. A few of them offer sage advice to all of us trying to make it through the end of 2020 and to stay strong during this pandemic. Some of them include Elissa Streamer, Ishod Wair, and the living legend himself Tony Hawk. Want to check out these postcards from the edge (of 2021?) Check them all out here.
