Remembering the Pee-wee Herman Nike SB Colorway

Shout out to Paul Reubens

On Monday, actor Paul Reubens died at the age of 70. He had apparently been dealing with cancer for years. Reubens is a delight in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and did some dramatic acting in Blow, but he’s best remembered for his character Pee-wee Herman. Surprisingly, Pee-wee also has a connection to the world of skate shoes.

Several years ago, Nike SB did a “Fallen Heroes” collection, and the Dunk High Pro got a Pee-wee colorway. It’s designed to look like Pee-wee’s iconic grey suit, with a hint of red to match his tie. The insoles feature an image of Pee-wee, or perhaps Reubens, sitting in a row of theater seats because, well, one particular trip to a theater didn’t turn out great for Reubens. Nowadays, if you want fresh Pee-wee Dunk Highs, it’s going to cost you four figures. Used shoes are available, which is a dicey thing, but this eBay post has extensive photos, so if you want to look at the shoes inspired by the late Reubens’ iconic character, you can do so.
