Norway’s Skien Skatepark Needs Your Help

The Nordic skate spot burned down last week
CHRIS MORGAN  |

There’s some brutal news coming out of Norway, as late last week the Skien Skatepark completely burned to the ground. Skien was one of the top skate spots in the country, especially since it was an indoor park. During the winter in Norway, you need a place indoors in order to skate properly. Skaters all across Norway and Europe are mourning the loss, and we feel nothing by sympathy for everybody affected by this. There are plans to rebuild the park, but time is of the essence, and you can help.

While the folks from Skien are still working with authorities and insurance companies to settle all this, there is currently a GoFundMe set up to raise money to rebuild a smaller version of the park. We aren’t going to get the old-school Skien back, but something for the skate community would be great. This is especially true since winter is coming and that will make building anything basically impossible. Normally, we like to focus on cool videos and fun interviews, but this is the kind of sad, serious event we feel like we need to point you toward. If you have any money that you can give to the folks at Skien, please consider it.
