Brooklyn Banks Park is Partially Reopening in New York City

A new generation of skaters can enjoy the iconic spot

If you are reading this, there is a good chance you don’t remember the heyday of Brooklyn Banks. Starting in the 1980s, New York City’s Brooklyn Banks became a go-to spot for skateboarders and BMX bikers, and it remained the case for decades. Then, New York closed the Brooklyn Banks park in 2010, causing NYC skaters to lose a “Mecca” of skating. Now, though, part of that park is coming back.

“The Arches” is part of Brooklyn Banks. It’s an acre of space under the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge that has spots for basketball, shuffleboard, and more. On May 24, for the first time in over a decade, The Arches will be opening, which means part of Brooklyn Banks will be back. Will skateboarders return? Will the classic spot became a haven for skaters once more? We shall see!
